For over 30 years Hawaii has welcomed the world’s best Iron Men and Women to compete for undying glory at the World Championship. At the very first edition, in 1978, just 15 competitors signed on for the event. Along with the rules, the brave challengers were issued with a brief final word: “Swim 2.4 miles! Bike 112 miles! Run 26.2 miles! Brag for the rest of your life!” The World Championships have evolved quite extensively since then, and in just a few days over 2,000 athletes with gather in Kona, Big Island to undertake the ultimate test of mind, body and spirit.
